2.8 understand the role of enzymes as biological catalysts in metabolic reactions

Enzymes are proteins that function as biological catalysts: Catalysts are substances that speed up
reactions without being used up in the process. Enzymes speed up the chemical reactions needed 
to maintain life (metabolic reactions).

The sum of all chemical reactions going on within a living organism is known as metabolism

Molecules that react with enzymes are called substrates: molecules produces are called products.

Enzymes are specific; they only work on one kind of substrate
