2.3 describe the functions of the nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, cell wall, chloroplast and vacuole

Nucleus: the nucleus contains the cells genetic material (DNA) and controls the activities of the cell
Cytoplasm: chemical reactions happen here, contains digestive enzymes
Cell membrane: controls the entry and exit of substances in and out of the cell
Cell wall: only found in plants, helps provide structural support to the cell
Chloroplast: contains chlorophyll, necessary for photosynthesis
Vacuole: in animal cells it can be used for storage, in plant cells it contains water and sap to keep the cell turgid (firm)
