Combustion of organic compounds (fossil fuels):
Many of human daily activities produce large quantities of
greenhouse gases. The burning of fossil fuels in factories is one of the main
sources of carbon dioxide. Many other hydrocarbon compounds release carbon
dioxide/ other greenhouse gases during combustion.
Deforestation:
Without the trees to regulate carbon dioxide
concentration, there is an increase of CO2 in the atmosphere and a decrease of
O2 levels. Trees are also used as fuels and the burning of wood releases carbon
dioxide as well.
Farming:
Other human activities such as the industrial process of
livestock are other contributors of greenhouse gases such as methane. Cows
produce methane as they digest and the large numbers of cows that are being
grown for human consumption means that they are a significant contributor of
methane in the atmosphere.
Landfill sites:
Landfill sites contribute to greenhouse gases because
during the process of decomposition, the bacteria decompose organic materials.
As a result, landfill gases are mostly composed of carbon dioxide and methane.
