When the skin is cut and blood leaks out, platelets come in contact
with the air. The platelets are held
together by fibrin and form a blood clot which dries out to form a
scab. Blood clots are important because
they limit the loss of blood and prevents entry of any pathogens.
Pus found underneath scabs contain dead phagocytes which have died due
to accumulation of toxins
Plasma sometimes leaks out from scabs, they can help dilute toxins
that have entered the wound
